A day in the Life: Chaperoning Jake and Monty
Being part of a wedding day with not one, but two dogs is always something special, and Monty and Jake were no exception. From the very first meeting, it was clear just how much they meant to Pauline and Rick, so making sure they were part of the day felt incredibly important.
Our First Meeting
I met Monty and Jake before I was officially their plus one to their parents’ wedding. Pauline wanted to make sure we were the right fit and I completely understood why. Trusting someone with your dogs on such an important day isn’t something to take lightly, especially when you’ve only met once or twice.
I visited their home in York and we headed out together for a pup cup. With treats, plenty of strokes, and a bit of time to get to know each other, it didn’t take long before we clicked. By the end of the visit, it felt like we already had a lovely bond and soon after, Pauline booked me. The rest is history, as they say!
Pre-Wedding Meet Up
Closer to the wedding, I returned to Monty and Jake’s home to go through all the final details. We talked through timings, arrangements, and exactly how the day would look for them.
We checked that their outfits fitted perfectly (a very important job!), and went over key commands for both dogs. Understanding how each dog responds and what works best for them is something I always prioritise as it helps everything run smoothly and keeps them feeling comfortable and secure throughout the day.
The Wedding Day
On the morning of the wedding, I collected Monty and Jake from their home and we made our way to Sandburn Hall. With its beautiful grounds, it was the perfect setting.
Before anything else, we headed out for a walk so they could explore, have a good sniff, and burn off a little excitement. Giving dogs that time to settle into a new environment makes such a difference to how relaxed they are for the rest of the day.
After their walk, it was time for a quick tidy up - clean paws, a brush and into their outfits they went, ready for their big moment.
While the ceremony took place, Monty and Jake relaxed and waited patiently. This quieter time meant they were calm and ready to enjoy the celebrations afterwards.
Photo Time
Once the ceremony had finished, they excitedly met their parents and we made our way to the rose garden for a stunning backdrop to the pictures. This is always such a special moment, seeing the dogs reunited with their humans, with all the excitement and emotion of just being married.
I was on hand with treats and squeaky toys to help keep their attention for photos, working alongside the Tom Walters photography to capture those all-important shots. With two dogs, it’s always a bit of a team effort - but Monty and Jake did brilliantly.
Meeting the Guests
After photos, it was time for Monty and Jake to soak up all the attention. They made their way around the guests, saying hello, enjoying plenty of fuss, and quickly becoming firm favourites with everyone there.
Of course, with all that excitement, it’s just as important to know when they need a break. After spending time with guests, we headed back out for another walk to give them some space to relax and reset.
Home Time
Once their role in the day was complete, I took Monty and Jake back home, where they could settle in comfortably. With a chew to keep them occupied and a calm environment, they were able to wind down after such a big day.
The Best Kind of Weddings Guests
Monty and Jake were such a joy to be around from those first cuddles to being part of the celebrations, they brought so much personality and warmth to the day.
Having a plan in place, allowing time for both excitement and rest, and making sure they felt comfortable throughout meant everything ran smoothly - for both the dogs and the couple.
