A Day in the Life: Chaperoning Nula

13th September 2024 | Lodge Farm, Cundall near York

There's something magical about a dog being part of their human's wedding day. As a professional dog chaperone, I get to witness these special moments while ensuring our four-legged friends have the best day possible. Today, I had the pleasure of looking after Nula, and what a day it was.

Morning Pick-Up: Starting Our Adventure

The day began with collecting Nula from home. That tail-wagging excitement that greeted me is something I love. Nula ran to me, wanting belly rubs straight away.  We loaded up the car with everything we'd need for the day – water, treats, a cozy blanket, and of course Nula’s special sunflower neck accessory that tied in perfectly with Felicity and Jonny’s theme for their wedding day.

Pre-Ceremony Preparations at Lodge Farm

I’d already spoken to Lodge Farm’s wedding coordinator and knew of a lovely little woodland walk. So Nula and I set off, on Nula’s pre-wedding routine. We took a leisurely walk, allowing plenty of time for toilet stops and those all-important investigative sniffs. This isn't just about practicalities, it's about helping Nula feel comfortable and relaxed before the main event. A calm dog makes for beautiful photos and happy memories.

The North Yorkshire countryside provided the perfect backdrop for our morning, Nula explored whist I kept a watchful eye, ensuring she stayed clean and photo-ready.

It was back to the car for a quick clean up and paw wipe down before adorning Nula with her own accessory for the day.

The Meet and Greet

Whilst we were walking, Felicity and Jonny alongside their loved ones, Said I Do.  In perfect timing we made our way to the venue and waited for the happy couple to enter the courtyard alongside their guests.

As everyone poured out of the venue ready to welcome the Bride and Groom Nula excitedly greeted all the guests, getting cuddles and strokes and lapping it all up.

There's a real art to managing a dog during guest arrivals - knowing when to let them socialise and when to give them quiet time. Nula handled her greeting duties beautifully, tail wagging for admirers while I monitored her energy levels and kept her from getting overwhelmed.

Picture Ready

Nula was ready for her close up, Liz (Noble Pooch) had already talked with the C M Photography prior to the wedding so we knew where to be and when! Nula was part of the whole wedding picture – think wide angle shot of everyone – and intimate wedding party pictures with the wedding party. Nula was also keen to be photographer and videoed by Peter Tranter and We Film Your Events.

Now this is where Liz and Nula’s pre-meet ensures that Nula and Liz are comfortable whilst Nula has her moment in front of the camera with her loved ones. With treats on hand – Nula was a pro!

Rest and Recuperation

Wedding days are long, and even the most social dogs need breaks. While the bride, groom, family and guests continued the party, Nula enjoyed some well-earned rest in the car whilst we travelled back to her home. These quiet moments are crucial. A rested dog is a happy dog, and Nula recharged her batteries with a nap.

And now we rest…

Back at home, we took one last walk to stretch our legs and attend to any final needs before I returned Nula to her familiar home. The perfect end to our adventure came with cuddles on the sofa – just me (Liz) and Nula, winding down together after a big day.  Nula let out little snores as we cuddled.

Why Professional Dog Chaperoning Matters

Days like this showcase exactly what a dog chaperone does. It's not just about holding a lead, it's about understanding canine behaviour, anticipating needs, managing energy levels, and ensuring your dog is comfortable, happy, and looking their absolute best throughout the day.

From morning pick-up to evening cuddles, every moment is carefully considered. Your dog gets to be part of your special day without any of the stress falling on you or your wedding party.

If you're planning a wedding in Yorkshire and want your four-legged family member to be part of the celebration without the worry, professional dog chaperoning could be exactly what you need.
